“A Few Feet Away takes a modern look at gay love, sexual longing, and the search for Mr. Right, or at least Mr. Night”, said Murray. “What attracted me to the film was its intelligent, knowing look at the “romantic” life of one gay youth.”

A film that examines the pull of dating apps and the double-edged sword of hookup culture, “A Few Feet Away” follows Santiago, a 20-year-old twink shaped by the anonymity of the virtual world, who becomes frustrated with gay dating apps and starts obsessively seeking a genuine experience in Buenos Aires’ nightlife.

In a captivating portrayal of Santiago, we are introduced to his foray into the world of online hookups. Through artful cinematography and subliminal messaging, the film immerses viewers in Santiago’s struggle to forge genuine connections amid a digital landscape saturated with anonymity.

As Santiago navigates this gay world, his experiences reflect the modern challenges associated with dating apps. Each encounter is imbued with a sense of hope as he seeks companionship, yet it often leads to disappointment. The film artfully underscores the tension between the allure of instant connection and the harsh reality of isolation.

Ultimately, Santiago finds himself drawn into a bewildering and traumatic anonymous orgy at a private club. This pivotal moment prompts him to reassess his decision to rely on dating apps for meaningful relationships. The emotional depth captured in this segment conveys a profound message about the complexities of human desire and the risks of pursuing instant gratification.

The film encourages us to question our choices in relationships. We are left pondering the implications of hookup culture and whether a genuine connection can ever be attained in such a transient environment.

Cinephobia Releasing is proud to announce the North American release of writer-director Tadeo Pestaña Caro’s debut feature A FEW FEET AWAY. Cinephobia President Raymond Murray acquired the film from Director Tadeo Pestaña Caro on behalf of his production company Mesa Chica Cine. A Few Feet Away is set to release on VOD, digital platforms, and Unrated Director’s Cut DVD on December 9.

An “energetic, sexy, unpredictable film” (Queerguru), A Few Feet Away stars Max Suen, Jazmín Carballo, Esteban Kukuriczka, Débora Nishimoto, and Martín Shanly. It was produced by Malena Suárez, with Tadeo Pestaña Caro and Eugenia Gonzalía serving as Executive Producers.

The film world premiered at BFI Flare: London LGBTQIA+ Film Festival and held its North American Premiere at Reeling: The Chicago LGBTQ+ International Film Festival.

“Seeing A Few Feet Away reach North American audiences after its world premiere in London is both thrilling and humbling”, said Pestaña Caro. “As a 29-year-old filmmaker from Argentina, I hold onto the belief that cinema is still a universal language—one that connects us through shared struggles and self-discovery, especially as queer voices are increasingly under threat.”
