Today, we celebrate the power of living authentically and being seen for who we are. But we also recognize that being out and visible isn’t always easy—or safe. Each of us navigates that journey differently, and there is no single right way to be LGBTQ+.
Whether you’re out to everyone, a few trusted people, or no one, we see you, we value you, and your voice matters.
Thank you for sharing your experiences with us through the 2026 Annual LGBTQ+ Community Survey! Your responses, along with those from more than 9,300 LGBTQ+ adults across the country, are helping us better understand our community’s challenges, priorities, and experiences.
You asked to hear about the survey findings, and we’re excited to share our first two reports, released this week!
Being Out in a Difficult Moment: LGBTQ+ People Continue to Choose Visibility, Connection, and Community.
Our latest findings examine what encourages LGBTQ+ people to live openly—and what makes visibility more difficult. From support and community connection to concerns about discrimination, safety, and the political climate, the results remind us that visibility is both powerful and deeply personal.

Make Your Voice Heard This November!
The November 3 midterm elections will help shape the future of policies and protections that affect LGBTQ+ people and our communities. Just as your participation in our survey helps ensure LGBTQ+ experiences are represented in research, participating in our democracy is another important way to make your voice heard. HRC’s Voting Center Hub offers resources to help you prepare, including voter registration information, key deadlines, voting options, and guidance on your rights at the polls—including resources specifically for transgender voters and students.
