Breaking Glass Pictures is proud to announce the North American release of Salt Water, the stunning feature debut from Colombian writer-director Steven Morales Pineda. Following its festival premiere at the 2024 Miami Film Festival, Salt Water will be available across major digital platforms beginning June 24, 2025.

A deeply personal and unsettling exploration of identity, trauma, and forbidden connection, Salt Water follows Jacobo (Luis Mario Jiménez) as he reconnects with José Luis (Óskar Salazar Ruiz), a Catholic priest on the verge of leaving the clergy amid accusations of child molestation. Years after a painful, unspoken past, Jacobo confronts not only the man he blames for his brokenness but the complex, conflicting feelings of longing and resentment buried within him.

“Salt Water is a fearless and intimate examination of emotional scars, unresolved trauma, and the tangled web of love and pain,” said Rich Wolff, CEO of Breaking Glass Pictures. “I had the chance to see this film at the Miami Film Festival, and I was immediately drawn to its quiet power and brave storytelling. It’s a film that lingers, challenges, and deeply moves — we’re honored to bring Steven’s voice to audiences here in North America.”

Directed, written, and produced by Steven Morales Pineda, the film also stars Ferraro Yerena, Braian V. Aburaad, and Clarissa Cuadros.

“The filmmakers were impressed with Rich Wolff’s passion for the film, and his commitment to telling challenging stories from diverse communities.”-Paul Hudson

This beautifully crafted movie delves into the grave topic of child molestation. It challenges viewers to confront hard truths while also navigating the emotional landscape associated with such trauma. The storyline is intricately woven, ensuring that the gravity of the subject matter is handled with care and sensitivity.

Among the standout aspects of the film is the exceptional acting, particularly by Luis Mario Jiménez. His performance resonates throughout, bringing depth and authenticity to his character. Each scene is thoughtfully executed, showcasing a direction that keeps the audience engaged. The film guides viewers from moment to moment, crafting a coherent narrative that is easy to follow, despite its heavy themes.

Another remarkable element is the cinematography, which brings a palpable reality to both the time and place portrayed in the film. Every visual choice enhances the storytelling, amplifying the emotional depth that is crucial to the film’s impact. By capturing the nuances of healing, the cinematography helps to immerse the audience in the characters’ journeys.

Ultimately, this film leaves viewers with a profound sense of heartache while also reflecting on the healing process. The conclusion is satisfying, although it provides a limited amount of closure after such an emotionally charged experience. It’s a film that not only entertains but inspires meaningful conversations.
