Vietnamese-American Queer artist LEADR (Alexander Tang) released the official music video for his new single “Hi, I’m Human” (which premiered exclusively on Atwood Magazine), out everywhere today.
Produced by Gianluca Buccelleti (Arlo Parks, Lana Del Rey), co-written by Joey Kurbanov (Mickey Valen), and mastered by John Greenham (Billie Eilish), the music video is both a visual feast and an emotional journey from the depths of despair to the bliss of self-actualization.
Striking a universal chord in all of us, the song’s message says, “Hi, I’m Human. I’m just like you.” The music – inspiring, yet contemporary with some retro elements that channel the best of the RedHot Chili Peppers – takes us on an aural ride from trauma to salvation. The video, directed by Nima Firouzan and co-directed by LEADR, shows us that destructive words have the power to tear us down through simple, clear editing that beautifully showcases raw emotion and dazzling visuals.
Speaking on the message and timing of the video, LEADR took a moment to acknowledge the recent string of attacks on Asian Americans and that this song is dedicated to those victims.“As a community, AAPI needs to start sharing their stories. Using my voice, I hope that my song builds awareness to be careful with the words you choose. Our words do lift or they can destroy. We all suffer and seek love and validation. Let’s take united against racism, hatred, violence, and bullying. We’re all human.”
“Hi, I’m Human” will be included in his forthcoming freshman LP.
