The most recent music video, “Spellbound,” just released May 13th:
In anticipation of their upcoming EP, Now Is The Time, NYC-based indie-pop band, Bandits on the Run, have released the new video, “Spellbound.” Filmed at The Lyman Estate in Waltham, MA, the video embodies “the heartbreak and confusion of a disappearing act,” says multi-instrumentalist Regina Strayhorn. “The feeling of getting lost in a mysterious mansion is written into the bones of the song… shooting the video was an act of kismet.”
Now Is The Time will be released on June 25th, 2021, accompanied by another video, “She’s The Queen.” Originally written as an uplifting love letter to inspirational people in the band members’ lives, the song takes on a new meaning in the drag-centered music video, set to premiere during Pride Month after an unimaginably challenging year. “The last live show we Bandits attended before the pandemic was a local drag show in Nashville, and over the past year, we have been consistently moved, inspired, and energized by the resilience of the drag community,” explains the band. Directed by SRDA and shot by Austin Nunes, “‘She’s The Queen’ is a celebration of the tenacity, adaptability, and passion of drag performers from around the world who have kept us entertained and smiling through some of our darkest days.”
In addition to four NYC drag performers – Junior Mintt, Blake Deadly, Luxx Noir London, and Oliver Herface – the band is inviting community members across the globe to submit their own performance videos to be included in the final project, creating “a beautiful drag fantasia for the ages.” For each of the first 100 digital drag performances received, the band will donate $10 to the #saveourspaces fund, which provides direct financial support to drag venues and other queer nightlife spaces that have been impacted by the pandemic. Since their serendipitous meeting in a subway station, Bandits on the Run – Strayhorn, Adrian Blake Enscoe, and Sydney Shepherd – have earned praise from NPR, Rolling Stone, American Songwriter, Billboard, and more, while consistently releasing music and touring the world. When COVID-19 caused them to cancel their 2020 tour dates, the multi-talented Bandits turned their attention to other creative pursuits, including writing and starring in a post-apocalyptic folk musical shot live in an abandoned theater in collaboration with Prospect Theater Company, titled The Band at the End of the World, recently selected to be shown at The NYC Indie Theater Film Festival. In addition, Enscoe is currently starring opposite Hailee Steinfeld in the acclaimed series, Dickinson. Season Three will be filming this summer.
With the impending release of Now Is The Time and the prospect of live performance coming back, Bandits on the Run just may be the band best equipped to bring us into the new decade with spirit, love, joy, a little mystery and mischief, and a big heaping spoonful of heart.
