Catching Up With. . . RuPaul

(Reposted from Dec. 2005) It has been some four years since we last heard from Rupaul and I have to admit that her unique energy and positive spin on all things is something that I think we could use right now.

Adam & Steve

Adam & Steve gives a decidedly gay and decidedly irreverent twist to the romantic comedy. Obviously and defiantly mocking anti-gay cliches with the title, writer/director/star Craig Chester delivers an enjoyable tale of budding love.

Boys Life 4

The original Boys Life short film collection remains my favorite of the series, and the only one where all the collected films actually seem to belong with each other. Still, this anthology brings together four inventive tales.

Fabulous! The Story of Queer Cinema

Vito Russo's 1981 book The Celluloid Closet explored how movies portray gays and lesbians. That book led to a documentary adaptation from directors Rob Epstein and Jeffrey Friedman. While both incarnations of The Celluloid Closet remain ground-breaking and essential, Fabulous! The Story of Queer Cinema focuses mostly on gay films, made from a gay or gay-friendly perspective.
