Singer-songwriter Seth Glier kicks off the summer festival season with performances at some of folk music’s greatest festivals. Glier’s summer 2010 festival schedule starts off with a slot on the mainstage at the Kerrville Folk Festival (June 5th & 6th), Plymouth Folk Festival (July 11th), Falcon Ridge Folk Festival (July 23rd – 25th), and The Grassy Hill Song Circle at the Connecticut Folk Festival (Sept. 10th). On April 26, 2010, Newsweek printed an article entitled ‘Straight Jacket’ in which contributor Ramin Setoodeh criticizes LGBT actors. Glee Creator Ryan Murphy and actors including Kristin Chenoweth and Michael Urie have spoken out against the article. Today GLAAD joins Murphy in urging Newsweek to issue an apology. Servicemembers Legal Defense Network (SLDN), a national, legal services and policy organization dedicated to ending “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” (DADT), announced today that SLDN-client Sara Isaacson, a University of North Carolina Army ROTC student, is on Capitol Hill meeting with Congressional offices after she was recently discharged by the government for being gay. So how does a hush-hush subject like masturbation get a month of its own? It started in 1995 in San Francisco as a response to the forced resignation of U.S. Surgeon General Joycelyn Elders. After a speech at the United Nations World AIDS Day in 1994, an audience member asked Elders about masturbation’s potential for discouraging early sexual activity.
