Bad Attention: Iowa GOP House Candidate Under Fire for LGBT, AIDS Smears

A Republican candidate for the Iowa House has found himself under recent scrutiny for some reprehensible comments he posted on his Facebook page.

The Iowa Independent broke the story Tuesday, revealing that Jeremy Walters, who is running against the Democratic Majority Leader of the Iowa state House, posted some incendiary remarks regarding AIDS and homosexuality on his Facebook page last week (he's since removed them in a belated fit of remorse, but that's what screenshots are for).

NOM Fails in Lawsuit to Hide Maine Election Activities

The Human Rights Campaign (HRC), the nation's largest lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) civil rights organization, today called on the National Organization for Marriage to stop its radical national strategy of hiding its election activities and eviscerating public disclosure laws, in the wake of today’s federal court ruling in Maine upholding the state’s campaign finance framework against NOM’s challenge.

The Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD), the nation's lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) media advocacy and anti-defamation organization responded to today's Ninth U.S. Court of Appeals decision which stays U.S. District Court Judge Vaughn Walker's ruling that committed gay and lesbian couples have the constitutional right to marriage.

A three-Judge panel with the U.S. 9th Circuit Court of Appeals has granted a motion filed by proponents of California's Proposition 8, delaying implementation of the August 4th U.S. District Court order finding Proposition 8 in violation of the 14th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution pending appeal.

Target Corporation Message to LGBT Community: We Won’t Make it Right

After two weeks of good-faith discussions – and two tentative agreements – with Target Corporation, the company has informed the Human Rights Campaign, the nation’s largest lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) civil rights organization, that it will take no corrective actions to repair the harm that it caused by contributing $150,000 to an organization supporting a vehemently anti-gay candidate closely associated with a Christian rock band that advocates death and violence to gay people.

New Study Shows Tangible Harm of “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell”

The Human Rights Campaign – the nation’s largest lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender civil rights organization – reiterated its call on the United States Senate to repeal the failed “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” law in the wake of a new study released by the Palm Center showing DADT discharges in 2009 included: 8 linguists, 20 infantrymen, 16 medical aides, 7 combat engineers, 6 missile artillery operating crew members, and one member of the Special Forces. The study also shows women and minorities have been disproportionately discharged under DADT.
