A new wave of HIV infections is about to hit New York and we had all better get ready for it-from AIDS service providers like us to all New Yorkers at risk. It is not just that many people have let their guard down when it comes to practicing safer sex or not sharing needles, but thousands of people are living with HIV without knowing it and are about to find out.

As old files are removed, there are articles, reviews and other content that we wish to become part of our archives and remain viewable on the web for many years to come in a new cleaner format. It's an honor to create a compilation of original short movie reviews written specifically for Twit Magazine by our beloved Duane Simolke. Besides writing reviews for This Week in Texas, Duane has written the books The Acorn Stories, Degranon: A Science Fiction Adventure, Holding Me Together, and New Readings of Winesburg, Ohio. He also edited and co-wrote the spin-off The Acorn Gathering, a fund-raiser for cancer research.

Black lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) people will gather in the nation’s capitol for the National Black Justice Coalition’s (NBJC) OUT on the Hill Black LGBT Leadership Summit, a convening of top African American LGBT thought leaders, faith leaders, philanthropists and activists who are organizing to empower their communities while educating Congressional leaders, the Obama Administration and federal agencies about Black LGBT public policy concerns.

The Texas Commission on the Arts (TCA) is seeking nominations for the positions of 2011 and 2012 State Poet Laureate, State Musician, State Two-dimensional Artist and State Three-dimensional Artist. All Texas citizens are encouraged to make a nomination, and self-nominations are encouraged.

While on a recent radio and press tour in Manhattan to promote her current dance radio hit “Underneath,” Hildebrandt stayed several nights at a luxurious upscale “retreat” hotel in Union Square.

GLSEN, the Gay, Lesbian and Straight Education Network, congratulates ABC’s “Modern Family,” a groundbreaking hit comedy that includes the positive portrayal of a family headed by LGBT parents and has addressed bullying in schools, for its six Emmy wins Sunday, including Outstanding Comedy Series. GLSEN will honor the show at the Respect Awards – Los Angeles, Presented by Centropolis Entertainment, on Oct. 8 at the Beverly Hills Hotel.
