Federal Appeals Court Rules Unanimously in Favor of Freedom to Marry in Idaho and Nevada

Today, the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit ruled 3-0 that Idaho’s and Nevada’s ban on the freedom to marry for same-sex couples violates the U.S. Constitution’s guarantee of equal protection.

Certified Life Coach, Activist and Minister Dr Rizi Timane raises public awareness of Transgender Day of Remembrance

November 20th is Transgender Day of Remembrance and was set aside to memorialize those who were killed due to anti-transgender hatred or prejudice. The event is held in November to honor Rita Hester, whose murder on November 28th, 1998 kicked off the Remembering Our Dead web project and a San Francisco candlelight vigil in 1999. Rita Hesters murder - like most anti-transgender murder cases - has yet to be solved.

Senator Cruz Inducted Into HRC’s Hall of Shame

The Human Rights Campaign (HRC), the nation's largest lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) civil rights organization, today inducted Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX) into the inaugural class of the most anti-equality members of Congress.  Senator Cruz is being inducted into HRC’s Hall of Shame along with 18 other anti-equality Members of the 113th Congress.

One Year Later, Historic Supreme Court Marriage Rulings Still Center Stage as Courts Strike Down Marriage Bans

This Thursday, June 26, marks the one-year anniversary of the U.S. Supreme Court’s landmark rulings in two historic marriage cases – United States v. Windsor and Hollingsworth v. Perry.  Since then, not a single state ban on marriage equality has survived a federal court challenge.

In Harsh Criticism, Attorney General Eric Holder Slams Boy Scouts’ Discriminatory Ban on Gay Scout Leaders

Tonight Attorney General Eric Holder will harshly condemn a Boy Scouts of America (BSA) policy that prohibits gays and lesbians from serving as Scout Leaders.  While the group’s National Council recently voted to end a longstanding ban on gay youth in Scouting, it left in place a policy that bars gay and lesbian adults, including Scouts who reach the age of 18 and parents of Scouts, from participating.

Houston City Council Passes Equal Rights Ordinance Protecting all Houstonians from Discrimination

Today the Houston City Council passed the Equal Rights ordinance by a vote of 11-6.  The ordinance, which was introduced by Mayor Annise Parker last month and amended by Councilmember Davis to extend critical protections to transgender people that ensure they will be afforded the respectful, safe access to places of public accommodation to which they and all people are entitled, will protect all Houstonians from discrimination in the workplace, housing, and public accommodations

Proposed Houston Equal Rights Ordinance contains discriminatory language

Currently the city of Houston, Texas is hearing testimony and engaging in a fight for equal rights that includes sexual orientation, gender identity, and expression. On the face of it, this is legislation that Transgender Education Network of Texas as a statewide organization can get behind and support in order to provide a state of equity for Transgender and Gender Non-Conforming Texans.
