Hairspray Is A Big Bouffant Blast

I can only image the phone call when Theater Producer Margo Lions called John Waters and informed him she wanted to make one of his movies into a Broadway Musical.  Water's if you are not aware is the king of trash movies, his career started with such classics as “Hag in A Black Leather Jacket” and “Eat Your Makeup” and though he evolved over the years, I don't think anyone would consider Waters' mainstream.

A new website to help gay travelers

Many times we find ourselves having trouble finding reasonable accommodations when we travel. The options are usually expensive, and they don't always fit with the average gay traveler’s needs in terms of location, facilities, and a friendly attitude.

9 to 5 The Musical Proves Movies Can Be Great Broadway

More often than not when a hit movie is made into a musical, it is something just this side of tragic (Xanadu, High Fidelity)  but there are exceptions to that rule.  Hairspray and The Producers, are amazing musicals, and so is 9 to 5.

Dallas Theater Center's The Wiz is Brilliant Innovative Theater

I have to admit I was looking forward to seeing the Wiz at the Wyly, for several reasons, of course there is the theater.  The Wyly is  fairly new theater, but it has quickly become my favorite place in Dallas to see a show.  This theater has not put on a bad show yet.  Secondly, the show stars Liz Mikel and Denise Lee, two of my favorite performers bar none.  Finally, this show features what I consider one of the greatest songs Broadway has every produced, “Home”.

Ease On Down the Road to San Antonio for 'The Wiz'

I met a guy about a month ago when he was in town visiting relatives and he and I have been in constant contact since by phone as he lives in McAllen, and I in Dallas.  We decided to meet in San Antonio for a couple days R&R and getting to know each other.  I was delighted to learn he likes theater so I contacted the Carver Cultural Center for a pair of tickets to opening night of The Renaissance Guild's Production of The Wiz.  This show offered me a unique opportunity, as I was attending opening night of Dallas Theater Centers Production of the same show the following Friday.
