(New York City - July 27th) - ImFromDriftwood.com, which collects and shares true LGBT stories from all over the world, has met and surpassed its first fundraising goal of $15,000 to help fund their ambitious 4-month, 50-state Story Tour. As of yesterday afternoon, they had raised 112% of their goal, coming in at $16,786 made up mostly of small donations from 265 backers. While this initial cash infusion will not fund the entire Story Tour, it ensures that the project will start as planned in September. The I’m From Driftwood team is now reaching out to corporate sponsors as well as soliciting large donations from individual donors.

IFD collects true LGBT stories from all over the world--from the smallest towns to the biggest cities--to help LGBT youth feel not so alone. Throughout the 50-state Story Tour, IFD will have reading events at cafes, bookstores, bars, community centers, college campuses and other venues where they will share stories from IFD and talk about the site and its purpose. Along the way, they will be filming and recording video and audio stories from LGBT people they meet across the country.

“We’re thrilled that our initial fundraising drive was a success, and as a result, we’re now ready to make I’m From Driftwood’s 50-state Story Tour a reality,” said Nathan Manske, creator and editor of IFD. “We are also encouraged that most of this money came in the form of small donations from all across the country. It’s clear that there are a lot of people out there supporting us, who want this Story Tour to happen. Thanks to them, now it will.”

IFD’s Story Tour is set to kick off on September 2nd with a large event at the world-famous Salt Lick BBQ in Driftwood, Texas. From there, the IFD team will head north, stopping at big cities and small towns along the way to collect and share true LGBT stories. In a four month period, the team will travel to all 50 states with a mission to show the world that gay people are, indeed, everywhere -- from Driftwood, Texas to Wasilla, Alaska and everywhere in between.

Throughout the journey, IFD will have a regular blog page chronicling their adventures. Marquise Lee, IFD's Video Editor and founder of Crush Deviant Productions will film the journey and publish short YouTube videos about their progress. As the Story Tour progresses, they will publish regular video webisodes as well as written updates about their journey. They're also hoping to make the entire experience as interactive as possible. The IFD team is taking suggestions of where to visit and even asking people to open up their guestroom or couches.

IFD knows LGBT people are everywhere. You know LGBT are everywhere. After this Road Trip, LGBT youth will know it, too.

www.ImFromDriftwood.com collects true LGBT (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender) stories from all over the world--from the smallest towns to the biggest cities--to help gay youth feel not so alone. The hundreds of written stories and over 50 Video Stories range from the furtive life of a gay man living in Indiana during the ultra conservative, and unforgiving 1950s, to a clandestine underground gay-straight alliance in present day Indonesia. While some stories recount bitter memories of violence, hatred, and intolerance, most are a testament to the most common of human emotions - optimism, love, honesty, and hope. Together, these stories offer rare insight, and lend indisputable humanity to the lives of LGBT people everywhere, giving gay people young and old the world over a sense of community and a reassurance that they are not alone. IFD is a 501(c)3-pending organization and any donations made now will be retroactively tax deductible once the 501(c)3 status is approved.

Nathan Manske is the creator and editor of the gay, true-stories website I’m From Driftwood. He was recently named one of The Advocate's Forty Under 40 in 2010 for his work on the groundbreaking blog. Nathan is indeed from Driftwood, Texas, but has lived in Brooklyn, New York since 2003. Before creating I’m From Driftwood, he spent 4 years as a full-time copywriter, working first at Hanft Raboy & Partners, then Berlin Cameron & Partners, and has fortunately been able to combine his personal passions with his profession. His Chemistry.com television commercials raised awareness as well as eyebrows by taking on eHarmony’s discriminatory policies towards gays and lesbians. eHarmony has since changed their policies. He also found a way to actually get paid for being a geek by writing the third X-Men film’s interactive website for 20th Century Fox. Other work has included Match.com, in the U.S. and the UK, Lincoln, VitaminWater, Sony, Comcast, Howard Johnson’s, Diet Pepsi, Hertz, and Showtime. Nathan received an Advertising degree from the University of Texas at Austin.
