2010 Fact Sheet

Event:          The 13th Annual Bayou City Art Festival Memorial Park is a fine, juried art festival that transforms the 1.1 – mile trail of the park into a one-of-a-kind outdoor gallery.

Location: Memorial Park, Memorial Drive at Picnic Lane (south side of Memorial Drive)

When: Friday, Saturday & Sunday, March 26 – 28, 2010

Times: 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Featured Artist: Vic Lee, who specifically created his piece, “Waiting To Fly” for this festival.

Offerings: Fine juried art by 300 artists representing 17 media formats, including clay (decorative and functional), digital (not photography), drawing/pastel, fiber/textiles, furniture (functional), glass, jewelry, leather, metal, mixed media 2-D, mixed media 3-D, painting (acrylic or oil), painting (watercolor), photography (digital or computer manipulated), photography (traditional), printmaking and sculpture (3-D). There are restaurants and wine cafes, an interactive children’s Capital One Bank Creative Zone and juried Emerging Artists sculpture installations by area high school students.

Cadillac “Best of Show”

Houston Area Cadillac is partnering with the Art Colony Association in a Facebook Fan Pledge to help raise awareness for Bayou City Art Festival. In March, Houston Area Cadillac Facebook fans will have the opportunity to vote and weigh in on “Top 10 Local Houston Artist.” Every additional fan during the month of March will add up as a donation to the Art Colony Association. Bayou City Art Festival “People’s Choice” Voting at KTRH

Clear Channel radio and the Art Colony Association have partnered to offer a “People’s Choice” vote to get one waitlisted artist into the festival. Go to www.KTRH.com to check out the 10 candidates and their work, then vote for your favorite. When you cast your vote, you'll automatically be registered for a chance to win a fabulous Bayou City All-Access Pass!

Awards: Ranked as one of the "Top 10 Festivals" in the country by AmericanStyle Magazine for two consecutive years, was ranked #12 of the "Best 200" art festivals by Sunshine Artist, and "Best Festival in Houston" by the Houston Press.

Entertainment: Houston Arts Alliance brings together an array of multicultural performances representing the diversity and vitality of the city’s amazing performing arts, including members of the CORE Performance Company troupe performing “Point well taken…”

Capital One Bank Creative Zone: The Capital One Bank Creative Zone is an interactive family area where children and parents can explore the fun of art together. All proceeds of donations made in the Capital One Bank Creative Zone are divided among participating non-profit partners. Activities include:

· Art League Houston – ECO-Wear - Turn bicycle tires and other recycled materials into fabulous jewelry!

· City ArtWorks – Garden Lanterns - Create paper lanterns inspired by John Singer Sargent’s flower paintings.

· Downtown YMCA – Spangles that Dangle - Select from an exciting assortment of beads and pendants to make the perfect art festival accessory!

· Houston Center for Contemporary Craft – Plastic Paradise - Reuse old transparencies, playing cards, and x-ray film into fabulous hair clips and decorations!

· Houston Center for Photography – Sun Photos - Use light and shadow to develop a monochrome photo print for framing!

· Lawndale Art Center – Party Pinwheels With Pizazz - Fold and decorate paper pinwheels.

· MECA (Multicultural Education & Counseling through the Arts) – Ornamental Rocks - Create a colorful paperweight or pet rock with paint and glitter!

· The Museum of Fine Arts, Houston – Bend and Twist Pins - Twist and wrap colorful wire to create magnificent broaches and pins.

· Orange Show Center for Visionary Art – Mini Art Cars - Not enough time to create a full-size model for the Art Car Parade? Let your imagination run wild and make a mini version!

· For the first year, Capital One Bank will bring Wax Hands to Creative Zone patrons. Dip your hands in wax to create a festival souvenir!

NEW!  MOCAH Community Mural: Capital One Bank is sponsoring the festival’s first community mural, titled “Capital One Cares.” Join MOCAH (Museum of Cultural Arts, Houston) and award-winning artist Reginald Adams to create the weekend's largest artwork. Patrons can participate Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

NEW! Feast on cuisines from around the world! The Art of Food: When was the last time you raved about festival food? You will this year at Bayou City Art Festival Memorial Park!  Gourmet catering company Melange brings you 10 Art of Food stations including Italian, Cajun, Greek, Mexican, Asian, and Middle Eastern along with specialty stations dedicated to Sliders, Sushi, Ice Cream & Chocolate!

Epicurean Adventure: Our second annual Epicurean Adventure & Wine Bar continues to feature an outstanding array of wines from the U.S., Chile, Italy and Argentina, wine seminars and chef cooking demonstrations.  Max’s Wine Dive will conduct wine seminars and cooking demonstrations along with Drew’s Pastry Place, Morton’s and NOE.  A $10 donation to SNAP provides attendees with 5 wine sampling tickets and one food ticket along with wine seminars and Chef demonstrations.

Local Non-Profit Partners: Over the past 38 years, the Bayou City Art Festivals have raised more than $2.5 million for local nonprofit organizations. Its 2010 non-profit partners are: Downtown YMCA; Multicultural Education and Counseling through the Arts (MECA); The Orange Show Center for Visionary Art; Lawndale Art Center; Museum of Fine Arts Houston (MFAH); Houston Center for Photography; Art League Houston; Houston Center for Contemporary Craft; City ArtWorks; Art Colony Association; Bering Omega; DiverseWorks; Memorial Park Conservancy; Museum of Cultural Arts Houston (MOCAH); Several Dancers Core; Spay & Neuter Assistance Program (SNAP); SPARK; and Texas Accountants & Lawyers for the Arts (TALA).

Parking: There is no public parking in Memorial Park. Please park at Northwest Mall, or Downtown Theater District parking lots to catch the new and improved FREE Luxury BCAF Shuttle to the festival. Parking at Northwest Mall is FREE. Park near the PODS® containerParking at the Downtown Theater District parking lot will be at their standard rate. NEW!  EZ Rider Shuttle Pass: Go to the front of the line! Pick up your EZ Rider Pass and proceed to the front of festival shuttle lines at the Northwest Mall shuttle location on Saturday & Sunday of the festival! EZ Rider passes good for four people and are available until March 27 at the midtown branch of Capital One Bank, 408 Webster, 713.435.7700.
