HRC Calls on Oklahoma Lawmakers to Denounce Sally Kern’s Anti-Gay Remarks PDF Print E-mail

The Human Rights Campaign (HRC) – the nation’s largest lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) civil rights organization – is calling on Oklahoma Governor Mary Fallin and the state’s top lawmakers to denounce dangerous anti-gay remarks State Sen. Sally Kern recently made while promoting her new book. In an interview, Kern said young people learn that homosexuality is “normal and natural” because they’re “bombarded” with it every day. As a result, Kern claims, homosexuality presents a bigger threat to the United States than terrorism.

The Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD) today called for community members and allies to demand an apology and retraction after the Huffington Post’s home page featured a piece by Amanda Fairbanks, titled Sex For Tuition: Gay Students Using 'Sugar Daddies' To Pay Off Loan Debt on August 30, 2011.

Service members today welcomed a key milestone in repeal of “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” (DADT), as President Obama, Secretary of Defense Leon Panetta, and Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, Admiral Michael Mullen, formally issued their certification to the Armed Services committees of both houses of Congress, signifying that the military is ready for the transition.  In 60 days, as prescribed in the law passed by Congress and signed by the President last December, repeal will be final.

Pressure is increasing on Apple to remove their online store from the “Christian Values Network” (CVN), after several other corporations have removed their stores this week. More than 3,000 people have signed Western Washington University student Ben Crowther’s Change.org petition to Apple. CVN is used as a fundraising tool by several anti-gay, anti-women organizations like Focus on the Family and the Family Research Council.
