Judge Kimberly Mueller of the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of California denied a request by an anti-LGBT group to postpone the January 1, 2013 start of the state’s new law protecting lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender youth from psychological abuse at the hands of state-licensed therapists who use dangerous practices to try to change their clients’ sexual orientation or gender expression.

The Human Rights Campaign, the nation’s largest lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) civil rights organization – is condemning remarks from Kansas Secretary of State and Mitt Romney surrogate Kris Kobach, in which he compared LGBT people to drug users and polygamists. ThinkProgress reported that Kobach made the remarks while debating the GOP platform’s marriage equality language today in Tampa.

Zach Wahls, an Eagle Scout whose YouTube video in support of his two gay moms went viral last year, will deliver more than 275,000 petition signatures to the Boy Scouts of America’s National Annual Meeting in Orlando, urging the Scouts to reinstate Jennifer Tyrrell, a lesbian mom who was ousted as den leader of her 7-year-old son’s Cub Scout troop in Ohio. The petition, started by Tyrrell on Change.org, also urges the Boy Scouts of America to end their policy prohibiting gay scouts and gay scout leaders.
