This evening, seven of the original 13 LGBT veterans and advocates who were arrested yesterday at the White House fence, stood outside of the Capital Hilton (1001 16th Street NW) in Washington, DC to protest the White House’s “Common Purpose” meeting, a mostly secret, low-profile gathering of White House officials and institutional, progressive organizations aimed at controlling the agenda and messaging around those issues, which includes lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) issues.

Mormon Church: Same-Sex Attraction is Normal PDF Print E-mail

The Human Rights Campaign (HRC), the nation’s largest civil rights organization dedicated to lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) equality, today recognized that the Mormon Church removed same-sex attraction as a sin in church policy. The new policy, released by church leaders last Saturday, for the first time does not call for professional counseling for those who experience same-sex attraction.

This afternoon, three generations of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender veterans and advocates went back to the White House fence to call for the U.S. Senate, Majority Leader Harry Reid, and President Obama to make good on their promises to secure the repeal of “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” during the abbreviated, lame-duck session of Congress that started today.

This morning, GetEQUAL - a national lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender civil rights organization - along with veterans and other “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” repeal advocates held a vigil at the gravesite of Sgt. Leonard Matlovich – located on the grounds of the Congressional National Cemetery (1801 E Street, Southeast, Washington, DC).  The vigil held to coincide with the starting day of the lame duck session of Congress had a message for the U.S. Senate – Repeal “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” Now!

This morning on NBC’s Meet the Press, Senator John McCain (R-AZ) took issue with the preliminary findings—leaked to the Washington Post last week-- of the Pentagon survey on gays and lesbians serving openly in the military. He also said he does not think repeal of “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell,” the 18-year old discriminatory law that bans openly gay and lesbian troops from serving their country, should happen during the lame-duck session of Congress, set to begin tomorrow.

Houston’s Holiday Spectacular wouldn’t be complete without the FREE Holiday Trolleys that provide visitors with fun and easy transportation between all of downtown’s holiday hot spots. Two trolleys will run Friday evenings, and all day Saturday and Sunday, beginning Thanksgiving weekend and running through New Year’s Eve weekend.

This week, the Gay, Lesbian and Straight Education Network (GLSEN) launches their Safe Space Campaign, designed to promote visible support for LGBT students in American middle and high schools. The Campaign aims to place a Safe Space Kit in every middle and high school in the United States – more than 100,000 schools. The kits contain Safe Space stickers and posters along with a guide for steps that individual school staff members can take to build support for vulnerable students and reduce anti-lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) bullying and harassment in their school.
