The Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD), the nation's lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) media advocacy and anti-defamation organization, today applauded the NBA for its decision to fine Los Angeles Lakers player Kobe Bryant for anti-gay comments made during Tuesday night's game.

Today, more than 30 organizations sent a letter to Federal Communications Commission (FCC) Chairman Julius Genachowski, urging him to swiftly act on the National Hispanic Media Coalition (NHMC) and the Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation's (GLAAD) complaint against Liberman Broadcasting and KRCA Los Angeles for broadcasting the program, José Luis Sin Censura.

Iowa House Moves Marriage Inequality Amendment Forward PDF Print E-mail

The Human Rights Campaign, the nation’s largest lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) civil rights group, today criticized the Iowa House for passing an amendment to the state constitution that would prohibit any form of relationship recognition for same-sex couples. The amendment passed by a 62 to 37 vote and will now be sent to the Iowa Senate for consideration.

Hawaii State Senate Approves Civil Unions (SB 232) PDF Print E-mail

Hawaii State Senate passed SB 232 by a 19-6 vote.  The bill provides that the equal rights and responsibilities of married couples in Hawaii be available to thousands of same-sex couples in the state.  The Senate now sends a strong message that the time is now to lay this issue to rest.
