Chick-Fil-A Donated Nearly $2 Million To Anti-Gay Groups In 2009 PDF Print E-mail

Earlier this year, Chick-fil-A became embroiled in a controversy surrounding its donations to anti-gay groups. Though Chick-fil-A president Dan Cathy denied having an “agenda against anyone,” an Equality Matters investigation discovered that Chick-fil-A donated more than $1 million to anti-gay causes between 2003 and 2008. Now, new IRS 990 forms reveal that the company donated nearly two million dollars to anti-gay groups in 2009 alone, the most recent year for which public records are available.

"In 1996, the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA) defined marriage as being only between a man and a woman, and provided that states are not required to recognize same-sex marriages granted under another state's laws.  I voted for this federal law, and I continue to support it because I believe the traditional family unit should remain the foundation of our society."

The Human Rights Campaign – the nation’s largest lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) civil rights organization – issued the following statement today regarding the alleged anti-LGBT rant of New Jersey high school teacher Viki Knox. Knox, a teacher at Union High School, posted a slew of homophobic and transphobic remarks on her public Facebook wall after she saw a bulletin board celebrating LGBT history month in her school’s hallway.

Governor Bill Haslam has ignored the business community and signed into law a bill that wipes out county and city anti-discrimination laws, despite the Tennessee Chamber of Commerce and Industry reversing their earlier support and now opposing the bill.

LBGT Groups Urge Orbitz to Pull Ads from Fox News Over Anti-Gay Rhetoric PDF Print E-mail

Media Matters kicked off its DropFox campaign today by urging Orbitz (OWW), an online travel site, to pull its ads from the anti-LBGT Fox News network. Three high-profile gay rights organizations—GLAAD, Courage Campaign and Equality Matters—signed the letter to Orbitz CEO Barney Harford asking that the company no longer support Fox News through ad revenue.

Late yesterday the president of a sports agency representing some of the National Hockey League’s (NHL) top players compared gay marriage to bestiality. Don Reynolds, president of the Canadian-based Uptown Sports Management made his comments a day after New York Ranger forward Sean Avery announced that his support for marriage equality in New York state via a video for the Human Rights Campaign (HRC). Sean Avery was a “trending topic” on Twitter last night and his video on HRC’s YouTube account has been viewed over 148,000 views as of this morning.

GLAAD Joins Chorus of Fair-Minded Americans Demanding Sally Kern's Resignation PDF Print E-mail

The Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD), the nation's lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) media advocacy and anti-defamation organization, today joined the state chapter of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP), the Oklahoma Democratic Party and the Oklahoma chapter of the Council of American-Islamic Relations in calling for the resignation of Oklahoma State Representative Sally Kern in light of her history of attacks on LGBT Americans and her suggestions on Wednesday that African Americans and women don't 'work as hard,' while speaking on the floor of the Oklahoma House of Representatives.
