Human Rights Campaign Responds to Misleading Claims by Organizations Seeking to Discriminate PDF Print E-mail
Nov 20, 2009 at 03:27 PM

The Human Rights Campaign, the nation’s largest lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) civil rights organization, today responded to the “Manhattan Declaration” produced and released by 145 evangelical, Roman Catholic and Orthodox Christian leaders indicating that they will not cooperate with laws that conflict with their beliefs, including those recognizing same-sex couples. The document also references the federal Employment Non-Discrimination Act (ENDA) as a threat to religious liberty.  Yet ENDA – which prohibits workplace discrimination based on sexual orientation or gender identity – broadly exempts religious organizations.  The declaration also argues that religious groups that receive public funds to perform social services are unfairly burdened by state and local laws on marriage equality and non-discrimination.

Nov 16, 2009 at 03:04 PM

As people become increasingly aware of the environment and how the choices they make impact it, there is also a trend toward becoming more “green” or environmentally friendly. This is especially true when holding an event or party, because there are usually so many people involved, and if not done in a green way, an event has the potential to produce a large amount of trash and to use up a lot of resources. Yet one of the challenges that people planning events often face is how to hold a green party that is also creative and cost effective.

I’d like to know how to create a rooftop garden PDF Print E-mail
Oct 09, 2009 at 03:19 PM

Indeed there are many good reasons to build a rooftop garden, or a so-called “green roof”—whereby layers of soil and plants on top of homes and buildings provide a host of environmental “services” for the living space below as well as for the surrounding ecosystem. Unlike traditional roofs, green roofs thrive on (and filter) precipitation, decreasing the amount of pollution-laden stormwater run-off draining into our waterways. And thanks to the process of photosynthesis, the plantings create oxygen, cleanse the air and absorb carbon dioxide before it gets into the atmosphere and adds to our global warming woes.
