Courage Campaign's Rick Jacobs files FPPC complaint against Andy Pugno, Assembly candidate and counsel for Protect Marriage PDF Print E-mail

Rick Jacobs, Chair of the Courage Campaign, filed complaints today with the California Fair Political Practices Commission and the Attorney General's office against Andy Pugno, General Counsel to the organization Protect Marriage and Republican candidate for State Assembly. The complaint alleges Mr. Pugno misused public funds in violation of the state Political Reform Act while a staffer for State Senator Pete Knight in support of a ballot initiative to ban same-sex marriage, which was eventually approved at the November 2000 election as Proposition 22.

GLAAD joined the United Church of Christ in expressing concern about CBS’s decision to accept a Focus on the Family advertisement for broadcast during the nationally televised Super Bowl on Sunday, February 7, after having refused ads in 2004 from the United Church of Christ focusing on the church’s commitment to inclusion.

Student Non-Discrimination Act of 2010 Introduced in U.S. House PDF Print E-mail

The Human Rights Campaign, the nation’s largest lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) civil rights organization, applauded the introduction of the Student Non-discrimination Act of 2010 (SNDA), H.R. 4530, which would prohibit discrimination against any public school student on the basis of actual or perceived sexual orientation or gender identity.  In addition, the SNDA prevents discrimination against any public school student because of the actual or perceived sexual orientation or gender identity of a person with whom that the student associates or has associated.  The bi-partisan SNDA was introduced by Congressman Jared Polis (D-CO) and has 60 co-sponsors.

With the Proposition 8 trial going on hiatus until Judge Walker determines date for closing arguments, Rick Jacobs, Chair of the Courage Campaign Institute, released the following statement:

Time Warner to Receive Greater New York Human Rights Campaign Equality Award PDF Print E-mail

The Greater New York Steering Committee of the Human Rights Campaign, the nation’s largest lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) civil rights organization, announced that Time Warner Inc. will receive the 2010 Corporate Equality Award in honor of their commitment to equality for LGBT employees, consumers, and investors.  The award will be presented at the 2010 Greater New York Gala Dinner which will take place on February 6, 2010 at the Waldorf-Astoria Hotel in New York City.
