Growing momentum against "license to discriminate bill" in Mississippi PDF Print E-mail

Following Senate passage of SB 2681 in Mississippi, a State House committee began consideration of the so-called "Religious Freedom Restoration Act" on Wednesday.  The measure would give businesses a license to discriminate against customers based on their personal religious beliefs.

Texas Baptist Universities Win Lawsuit Against HHS Mandate PDF Print E-mail

Today a Houston federal court delivered a major blow to the controversial HHS mandate ruling in favor of East Texas Baptist University and Houston Baptist University.  In a 46-page opinion, the court ruled that the federal mandate requiring employers to provide employees with abortion-causing drugs and devices violates federal civil rights laws, and issued an injunction against the mandate.

Yesterday the Utah Attorney General’s office announced they would be continuing their appeal of a federal judge’s decision allowing marriage for lesbian and gay couples. With no other details, the AG's office announced that they will bring in outside counsel at the expense of taxpayers.

For the first time in its long history, the Social Security Administration is providing benefits to same sex married couples, thanks to the Supreme Court’s June 2013 Windsor ruling in the Defense of Marriage Act.  This is a significant development with important financial implications for millions of elder lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender Americans, same sex spouses, widows, and children of LGBT parents.
