Conservative Students Protest Controversial Art at Texas Tech PDF Print E-mail

The Young Conservatives of Texas (YCT) chapter at Texas Tech University, a student group affiliated with CampusReform.org, will protest the controversial "Tornado of Ideas" sculpture on campus from 10am to 2pm today.

Every 9 seconds, Soles4Souls, Inc. gives away another pair of shoes to someone in need. The shoe charity has earned glowing endorsements from Hollywood stars and professional athletes, but the people that truly make the non-profit organization effective are those who clean out their closets to personally drop off their “gently worn” shoes at a participating location, such as at Several Dancers Core’s performance “Let’s Dance” on Friday, April 30 at the Miller Outdoor Theatre.

TENT applaud's Houston Mayor Annise Parker PDF Print E-mail

Transgender Education Network of Texas is pleased that Mayor Annise Parker of Houston has signed an executive order expanding the city's nondiscrimination policy.  The order, signed on Friday,  adds gender identity and gender expression as protected classes for City Employee's.  Houston now joins Dallas, El Paso and Austin as Texas cities having some protections specifically for their Transgender citizens.

The board of Transgender Education Network of Texas (formerly TACT) is very proud to announce that it has hired it's first full time employee.  Lisa Scheps, one of the founders of the social justice organization, has been brought on board as Executive Director.  In the past, Transgender Education Network of Texas (TENT) has always relied on volunteers to handle its programs and operations; with the hiring of a full time Executive Director, they will be able to reach many more people around the state.

Environment Texas and Texas League of Conservation Voters Praise Austin City Council for Approving Subsidies for Yingli Solar Project PDF Print E-mail

Environment Texas, a statewide, citizen-based environmental advocacy organization, and The Texas League of Conservation Voters (TLCV), the state's leading environmental organization dedicated to electing pro-conservation candidates, today praised the Austin City Council for approving a package of incentives worth $354,000 to bring Yingli Solar, a Chinese solar company, to Austin. Yingli plans to build a plant in either Austin, Texas or Phoenix, Arizona, that would create 300 clean energy jobs by 2013.

Seven students from the Houston area are among the 22 student artists from cities across Texas who have been selected to be a part of the Young Masters program. Students were chosen for their exemplary artistic talent and will all receive financial help to pursue advanced study in their chosen field.

Santikos Theatres, the Texas based theatre circuit, is bringing the best in cinema technology to its 8 locations in San Antonio and Houston. All theatres will have digital projection within the coming months, offering guests superior picture and sound quality on 98 Santikos screens. Currently, the Silverado 19 IMAX, Palladium IMAX, Silverado 16 and Embassy 14 have converted all existing 35mm auditoriums to digital using Barco Digital Cinema projectors. Art Seago, director of operations for Santikos has led the company’s technology upgrades. “When we decided to convert to digital circuit wide, we underwent the process of comparing the wide array of options available.  Barco brought to us superior technology, quality, value and service which is what we strive to provide to our customers at all times.”

Texas League of Conservation Voters Denounces Perry EPA Lawsuit PDF Print E-mail

The Texas League of Conservation Voters (TLCV), the state's leading environmental organization dedicated to electing pro-conservation candidates, denounced Governor Perry's decision to sue the Environmental Protection Agency, calling the action irresponsible and a waste of taxpayer money.  The group called for new leadership for Texas that would focus on cutting pollution and creating new clean energy jobs.
