On the evening of March 16th, the Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, and Transgender (GLBT) Resource Center hosted “open-minded, liberal, free spirit” Cay Crow for a controversial "Safe and Fun Sex" seminar on campus of Texas A&M University.

Dallas Same-Sex Couple Files Non-Discrimination Claim Against Dallas Morning News Newspaper PDF Print E-mail

Mark Reed-Walkup and Dante Walkup, a Dallas area same-sex couple, announced Thursday that they have filed a non-discrimination claim against the Dallas Morning News for the newspaper’s refusal to run their wedding announcement. Jim Moroney, chief executive and publisher of the Dallas Morning News, refused to run the couple’s announcement, citing Texas’ discriminatory law barring same-sex couples from legal, civil marriage in the state.

13 year old Hailey Dunn was last seen December 27, 2010 at her home in Colorado City, Texas. She has not been seen or heard from since that afternoon. Representatives from the Laura Recovery Center and Klaas Kids are in Colorado City to organize a community search for Hailey.

Texas A&M Student Senate to Take Final Vote on Bill Against In-State Tuition for Illegal Aliens PDF Print E-mail

The Texas A&M Student Senate is set to take a final vote Wednesday night on a controversial bill opposing the Texas practice of granting in-state tuition to illegal aliens.  The “In-State Tuition Bill” originally passed the Senate with a vote of 41 for and 26 against; however, the student body president vetoed the bill.  The Senate can override the veto with a two-thirds vote.

Houston’s Holiday Spectacular wouldn’t be complete without the FREE Holiday Trolleys that provide visitors with fun and easy transportation between all of downtown’s holiday hot spots. Two trolleys will run Friday evenings, and all day Saturday and Sunday, beginning Thanksgiving weekend and running through New Year’s Eve weekend.

Tonight University of Maryland senior research scientist John Lott, author of More Guns, Less Crime and The Bias Against Guns, will address University of Texas students in support of licensed concealed carry of handguns on college campuses.  However, the University of Texas campus was on lockdown earlier today while police searched for a possible second gunman connected to this morning’s campus shooting/suicide.

Lennox Industries Inc. has donated more than $30,000 in commercial HVAC equipment to Houston’s San Jacinto College South this year to help retrain people laid off from the construction and petroleum industries. The college’s HVAC department has grown 600 percent in 36 months, thanks in part to its ability to help nearly all graduates find jobs in the HVAC industry.

HRC Calls on the Republican National Committee to Reject Texas Republican Party Platform PDF Print E-mail

The Human Rights Campaign – the nation’s largest lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) civil rights organization – today condemned the Texas State Republican Party for including anti-LGBT language in its 2010 State Party Platform. The language, which goes far beyond the usual conservative talking points on “traditional family values,” sinks to a new low of intolerance and hate. In an email to members and supporters nationwide, HRC is calling on RNC Chairman Michael Steele to publicly repudiate the anti-LGBT language in the State Party Platform.
