Black lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) people will gather in the nation’s capitol for the National Black Justice Coalition’s (NBJC) OUT on the Hill Black LGBT Leadership Summit, a convening of top African American LGBT thought leaders, faith leaders, philanthropists and activists who are organizing to empower their communities while educating Congressional leaders, the Obama Administration and federal agencies about Black LGBT public policy concerns.

Servicemembers Legal Defense Network (SLDN), a national, legal services and policy organization dedicated to ending “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” (DADT), issued a national action alert today to members and advocates. The action alert, signed by former Petty Officer Second Class Jed Batchelder, U.S. Navy, asks supporters to schedule in-state meetings with their U.S. senators ahead of the Senate floor vote expected just weeks from now.

The campaign, designed to target Representatives and Senators from several key states, will focus on “pull[ing] out all the stops to get ENDA passed in 2010.”

Servicemembers United, the nation's largest organization of gay and lesbian troops and veterans, released a briefing memo today that blasted the biased design and derogatory and insulting content of the recent Pentagon survey of military spouses about the impending repeal of the "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" law.

The Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD) announced today the nominees and honorees for the 2nd Annual GLAAD Media Awards in Advertising Presented by Omnicom Group, Publicis Groupe, and Rokk Vodka.  Bryan Batt (Mad Men) will host the event on September 29, 2010 in New York City and Bethenny Frankel (Real Housewives of New York City, Bethenny Getting Married?) will present.

A Republican candidate for the Iowa House has found himself under recent scrutiny for some reprehensible comments he posted on his Facebook page.

The Iowa Independent broke the story Tuesday, revealing that Jeremy Walters, who is running against the Democratic Majority Leader of the Iowa state House, posted some incendiary remarks regarding AIDS and homosexuality on his Facebook page last week (he's since removed them in a belated fit of remorse, but that's what screenshots are for).
