Human Rights Campaign Foundation Launches Second Year of “Generation Equality Scholarships” for LGBT and Allied Students

The Human Rights Campaign, the nation’s largest lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) civil rights organization, announced the launch of the second year of the “Generation Equality Scholarships” for LGBT and allied students who have demonstrated exceptional commitment to the fight for queer equality.  The scholarships are part of HRC Foundation’s Youth and Campus Outreach Program, which aims to provide tools, facilitate connections and empower young people to fight for LGBT equality on campus and beyond.

Campus Pride Announces Recipients of the 2010 National Voice & Action Award

Campus Pride (www.CampusPride.org) recognizes George Aumoithe, Jr. of Bowdoin College (Class of 2011) and Stephen Lucas from Pennsylvania State University (Class of 2010) with the 2010 National Voice & Action Leadership Award. The annual honorary recognition is the only one of its kind focused nationally on lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender (LGBT) and ally college students. Every year the award is bestowed upon young adults who have made extraordinary contributions as LGBT and ally leaders at colleges and universities across the United States.

National Progressive LGBT & Straight Ally Sorority Welcomes 9th Colony at Northern Arizona University

A new colony ofGamma Rho Lambda (GRL) has been recognized at Northern Arizona University(NAU). GRL is the first national sorority with a focus on a social support system for college students in the LGBTA (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and straight-ally) community. Colonies and chapters of GRL are rapidly spreading, now located in California, Arizona, Kansas, Indiana, and New York and will soon be recognized in Texas and Wisconsin.

Three LGBT Youth-Focused Orgs. Among 100 Charities Vying for $1 Million in Chase Community Giving

GLSEN, the Gay, Lesbian and Straight Education Network, the Matthew Shepard Foundation and The Trevor Project – three organizations that work to improve the lives of LGBT youth – are among 100 finalists in Chase Community Giving, a campaign by Chase and Facebook to award $5 million to charities voted on by Facebook users.

Point Foundation Opens 2010 Application Season and Announces New Named Scholarships

Point Foundation (Point), the nation's largest scholarship-granting organization for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) students of merit, announces the opening of its 2010 application season starting December 11, 2009. Students who will be enrolled in undergraduate or graduate programs for the 2010-11 school year are eligible to apply for the prestigious, multi-year scholarships. The application deadline for this year's scholarships is February 12, 2010.

The National Lesbian and Gay Journalists Association Announces Call for Entries for Annual Scholarships

The National Lesbian and Gay Journalists Association (NLGJA) today announced a call for entries for the Leroy F. Aarons scholarship and the Kay Longcope scholarship.  These scholarships are awarded annually in honor of two prominent journalists.  Applications are available online and will be accepted until January 31, 2010.

Houston's First Holiday Tree Lighting: Nov. 14 at The Galleria

Houston first tree lighting event of the season, The 21st Annual Ice Spectacular Presented by Cadillac at The Galleria, will kick off the holiday season with a spectacular 30-minute tree-lighting show featuring dynamic performances by American Idol Finalist Diana DeGarmo, local competitive skater Becky Bereswill and Ice Spectacular professional ice skating pairs team Gord Willemse and Lisa Grice.
