A European-wide gay rights organization is endorsing
Ken Livingstone as Mayor for London in Thursday’s election and is urging all EU nationals living in London to vote for him.
“Ken Livingstone is famous for having been a life-long supporter of LGBT rights,” said
Rodrigo Martin Galan, the Spanish chair of
Rainbow Rose, a coalition of gay rights groups affiliated to socialist parties across Europe.
“From his early days at the GLC he has helped to make London one of the most gay-friendly cities in the world and he is probably as gay-friendly as any straight man can get."
“The advance of gay rights in London has been a beacon of hope for many gays and lesbians in less-enlightened countries across Europe."
“We would like to urge anyone from the EU countries entitled to vote and who believes in improving the rights of lesbian, gay and transgendered people."
“And to Londoners we would like to say we hope that Ken Livingstone will continue to be the Mayor for London after May 1st."
“You are very fortunate to have such a great champion for equality,” Galan concluded.
