More than a decade after he death moved a nation to tears, London jurors have found that Princess Diana and Dodi Fayed were “unlawfully killed”. Their findings pointed at the negligence of the couple’s driver, Henri Paul, and the paparazzi in hot pursuit of their vehicle, according to the Associated Press.

The jury spent six months listening to the more than 250 witnesses summoned to testify from around the world and reached their majority decision after deliberating for four days.

The jury found that their decision amounted to manslaughter, but according to Reuters, it is unlikely any new criminal charges will be filed because the incident happened in France, outside the British authorities’ jurisdiction.

The jury added that the fact Diana and Dodi were not wearing seatbelts contributed to their death.

The coroner, Lord Justice Scott Baker, instructed the jury there was no evidence to support claims by Fayed’s father, Mohamed Al Fayed, that the two were victims of a murder plot by Prince Philip.

Jurors were taken to the site of the 1997 crash during the investigation. The inquest has run up a tab of more than $6 million.
