It wasn’t a great day for top American tennis player Andy Roddick as unseeded Tommy Haas ousted him in the second round of the Pacific Life Open at Indian Wells. Roddick may have had a few lost games, but his serves were not the only things broken on the court in the 6-4, 6-4 duke out. Roddick smashed two rackets, and had a few temper tantrums out of frustration before leaving the court in defeat.

Roddick, who arrived to the tournament after recent wins in Dubai and San Jose, California, looked to be in top condition. On paper, a win over Hass seemed to be inevitable. Haas, however, has beaten Roddick in seven out of the 10 times the players have faced each other, and in the end, was able to break Andy’s powerful serve twice to clinch the match.

Roddick, who suffered his earliest loss in six appearances, told the Associated Press, "I maybe didn't play as well as I should have on the points I should have won... Whenever that happens and someone is in form and plays a good match, you're going to get beat.”

Roddick seemed to shake off the loss after leaving the court, telling the New York Times, “I’ve been playing very, very well for the last month, and so I’m not going to freak out over this loss and forget everything I’ve been able to kind of work toward in the last month.”

On court, however, he seemed very much bothered by his play as he had several outbursts, hit a ball into the stadium and broke two rackets on the ground after losing break points.

Elsewhere, Roger Federer advanced with a decided victory over Spain's Guillermo Garcia-Lopez, and Maria Sharapova is still unbeatable in 2008 with a win over Eleni Daniilidou of Greece.
