Breakout Saturday Night Live star Amy Poehler has much to celebrate this week. Shortly after being handed an Emmy nomination for her work on SNL, Poehler announced on Thursday she would be starring in a planned The Office 'spinoff' series on NBC.
Poehler, who is currently expecting her first child with husband Will Arnett, is anticipated to continue her stint on Saturday Night Live at least through the fall.
Poehler, 26, was nominated for outstanding actress in a comedy series this week for her standout work on Saturday Night Live, a series that rarely garners any attention from the awards circuit.
Poehler has appeared on Saturday Night Life since 2001 and co-hosts the show’s popular “Weekend Update” segment and portrays Hillary Clinton in political spoofs for the series. Her Emmy nomination is the first ever acting category nomination for a member of the Saturday Night Live cast.
Speaking to the Associated Press on Thursday, Poehler confirmed rumors that she would be starring in what was originally planned as a spinoff of NBC’s hit series The Office.
More recent reports indicate the series, which will also star Aziz Asari, will be more of an Office-adjacent concept, rather than true spinoff of the previous show, according to Variety.com. The new series, headed by Greg Daniels and Mike Schur, is currently scheduled to debut in February.
“I can kind of confirm that I will be working in some capacity on that show,” Poehler told AP. “I don’t really have ay other details yet.”
Former Saturday Night Live star and "Weekend Update" co-achor Tina Fey moved on from SNL to star in the Emmy-winning NBC series 30 Rock.
