After a few years in the Major League,
Nick Swisher is proving he is not only a great baseball player, but he’s also a great guy. As the Oakland A's first baseman/outfielder, Swisher is ranked third in American League on base hits and the 27 year old is starting off a great home run career with 51 so far, but it is his hair that is getting all the talk. Swisher or ‘Swish’, as he is known by the club, is growing his hair out to donate it to help make wigs for women suffering from hair loss caused by cancer treatment.
It is very unusual for a major league player to have long hair especially one with such a crazy pregame ritual which involves dunking his head in water and swinging it around making it appear at ratty as possible, but Swisher is doing it for a good cause in honor of his grandmother who died of brain cancer two years ago.
"Whatever I can do to help maybe one or two women, I'm all for it because my grandma's extremely close to me, and I know she'd be proud of me for doing this," Swisher said.
His been growing it out for the past nine months, and has been getting criticisms from fans, coaches and other players who have made some crazy comparisons like to “that dude
Sanjaya from American Idol” who was finally cut from the number one rated show.
Swish plans on getting his on cut in late May.
