Indiana Rep.
Baron Hill, who introduced Sen.
Hillary Clinton at a rally just last Friday, yesterday endorsed
Barack Obama, becoming the fourth new superdelegate to throw support behind the Obama campaign in a 24 hour period.
"If we are going to develop real solutions for Hoosier families, for America’s families, we have to move past the partisan gridlock," Hill said in a statement released by the Obama campaign. "I believe both Senator Clinton and Senator Obama want to do that and I believe both are formidable candidates. But, I also believe that only one of them truly can."
Hill joins Rep.
Andre Carson of Indianapolis in endorsing Obama ahead of the Indiana primary, which Obama himself has declared a ‘must-win’.
With the Hill endorsement, the Obama campaign now has the backing of four Indiana superdelegates, while Hillary Clinton claims the support of five, including the well-respected Sen.
Evan Bayh.
Three of the state’s other democratic congressmen have not backed either candidate.
The announcement comes at an important juncture as polls have shown a tight race between Clinton and Obama in Indiana as they seek the 72 pledged delegates at stake in Tuesday’s primary.
