But before you speed off toward your nearest Cineplex, how about a cheat sheet—not of movies that got the best reviews or faces you’re most likely to be seeing come Oscar time, but of something every last one of you cares about far more. Which movies boast the hottest men. September has a slew of them, and here, in no particular order, are the ones we feel are most deserving of your attention.
Seann William Scott (left) –
Mr. Woodcock Since rising to fame with the
American Pie movies,
Seann William Scott’s trips to the big screen have been few and far between. The type of Hollywood recluse who only surfaces when he has a film to promote,
Woodcock will take advantage of the humor that made legions of college students grow up to worship Stifler. I mean, how could we not express our love to the guy who made out with
Ashton Kutcher and
Jason Biggs, the showed up in lingerie to the Mtv Awards in a year’s time? That takes guts. Paired with his killer physique, really—what’s not to love about Seann. He returns to comedic form here as a self help guru who hits rock bottom when he finds out his mom is marrying the gym teacher who drove him to depression in high school.
Kevin Zegers – Jane Austen Book Club In his first trip back to the big screen since his star making turn as the gay hustler son of transgender Bree (
Felicity Huffman) in
TransAmerica,
Kevin Zegers takes on a decidedly less challenging role as a boy next door type opposite a slew of actresses acting out their love lives as they dive into the works of
Jane Austen. But fear not—after this, Kevin has five more flicks in the can, including the
Elton John produced
It’s a Boy Girl Thing in which he body swaps with a lady. We’ve seen it before—just not from someone who looks this good without his shirt on.
Chris Evans – Fierce People This movie has been sitting on the shelf for more than two years, which is a bummer considering the A-list cast including
Diane Lane and
Donald Sutherland. But Oscar-worthy acting aside, I’ll admit—I’m kinda looking forward to seeing what
Chris Evans can do without the help on form fitting spandex. Sure, we’ve seen him act before, but
Fierce People offers up the chance for him to act and look hot. How often do actors get that opportunity. Here’s hoping his neatly trimmed abs play a significant role.
Christian Bale – 3:10 to Yuma A master chameleon, the only drawback to the fact that
Christian Bale buries himself in every part he takes on is that he rarely sports his
American Psycho /
Batman Begins good looks. While I can appreciate the hell out of his work in flicks like
The Machinist and
The Prestige, I have to admit, I long for the days when Christian takes off his clothes and turns in a command performance. In 3:10 to Yuma, a Western, there’s always the chance he’ll scrub down in some metal tub out back, but for a return to the shirtless splendor we’ve come to long for, my money’s on next year’s
The Dark Knight. Still, with Oscar talk swirling, Hollywood’s most elusive leading man might finally get a statuette to go with his rugged good looks.
Clive Owen – Shoot ’Em Up We love a Brit with a sly wit and a charming smirk… and no one does that quite like
Clive Owen. Film after film, year after year, he continually impresses us with his body of work, and here, he changes gears to decidedly lighter fare, trading in epic monologues for a gun and a much talked about sex/shoot out scene with
Monica Belucci. Sure, we’d prefer gay sex, but we’ll take what we can get… and later this year, look his ‘Oscar’ submission in
The Golden Age.
Daniel Radcliffe – December Boys Just like fans and critics went nuts when Harry Potter took it all off for a stage version of
Equus (and again when he turned the big 1-8), tongues are sure to wag as
Daniel Radcliffe steps outside his boy wizard role for the first time since rising to fame. In
December Boys, he plays an orphan who spends his summer looking to get adopted. It might not be the sort of adult fare I’m sure some Potter fans were hoping for, but it’s a nice step in the right direction for Britain’s hottest export since the Spice Girls.
Brad Pitt – The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford Though
Brad Pitt is best known as one half of Hollywood’s new royal couple, occasionally, he steps in front of the cameras and acts. At the Toronto film festival, a movie critic wondered if his work as Jesse James was really just a thinly veiled love story between two men. A less comfortable actor might run screaming for his publicist, but calm, cool, collected Brad responded by saying, "If that’s what works for you, it’s absolutely fine. You can interpret it as you will, but it’s actually much more complex. I do love a gay story though.” Well alright Brad—love the openness. However, if there’s any spit = love in a tent action, I’ll be forced to side with the critic.
