Daytime talk show diva Ellen DeGeneres and lovely fiancée Portia de Rossi are planning to wed on Saturday in a small, private ceremony, according to Us Weekly. DeGeneres famously announced her plans to marry de Rossi during a live taping of her talk show in May shortly after the California Supreme Court struck down a ban on gay marriage in the state. DeGeneres, 50 and former Ally McBeal star de Rossi, 35, have been together for four years.
In an interview with The Advocate in May, Ellen DeGeneres said she was more than ready to walk down the aisle with de Rossi after hearing of the California Supreme Court’s ruling to allow same-sex couples to marry.
“I’m thrilled that the California Supreme Court overturned the ban on gay marriage,” DeGeneres told The Advocate. “I can’t wait to get married. We all deserve the same rights, and I believe that someday… not allowing gays to marry will seem as absurd as not allowing women to vote.”
DeGeneres announced her ‘formal’ engagement to de Rossi during a live taping of her daytime talk show in May. De Rossi was in the studio when DeGeneres made the announcement, which was met by loud cheers and a standing ovation of applause by audience members. "It's something that we've wanted to do and we want it to be legal and we are very, very excited," DeGeneres told fans.
According to E! Online, DeGeneres and de Rossi plan to wed on Saturday in a small ceremony attended by around 20 close friends and family. De Rossi will reportedly wear a “flowing formfitting dress by Zac Posen” during the ceremony.
