So you’ve waited until the eleventh hour to find a gift for that special someone in your life and now you’re in a panic, right? Because heaven forbid you should forget the singular 24-hour period that retailers have taken great pains to denote as ‘the most amorous day of the year.’
Well never fear, you’ve still got a day or so and whole slew of easy, quick options that will keep you in your loved one’s good graces and out of the doghouse come February 14.
Fragrance
Okay it’s not the most innovative gift, but fragrance can be a very thoughtful gift if you take the time to choose a scent that is a dead on match with your significant other’s tastes.
This season,
Gendarme Sky with top notes of lime and cognac and base notes of warm woods and Spanish moss is a winning choice as it fragrantly anticipates the spring season ahead. However a slightly muskier choice might be
Thierry Muegler’s Angel Men which elegantly captures the esprit de corps in a single beautiful bottle.
Spa Packages
Nothing spells l-o-v-e like a healthy dose of pampering. If you’re no masseuse yourself, treat your partner to day at the spa and let someone else’s hands do all the work. Purchase a package that combines a mani/pedi, with a facial and massage (and maybe even an herbal soak) and present that your lover and watch his or her eyes light up with glee.
For a bit of added romance choose a spa where you can both indulge in a bit of pampering together because after all, what’s good for the goose is equally good for the gander n’est ce pas? (You might even get goosed as a result!)
Baubles
You don’t have to commit with a ring but a lovely piece of jewelry is an easy and effective, if sometimes expensive, token of affection to give your paramour this Valentine’s Day.
Why not find a lovely dog tag with a playful saying inscribed on it, a fanciful belt buckle that recalls a shared sentimental moment, a precious stone embellished bracelet or a whimsical ‘friendship’ ring that illuminates the growing depths of your feelings. The key to giving the right piece of jewelry is thoughtfulness not the price tag (though expensive can sometimes say so much as well).
Rose champagne, Champagne Flutes & Chocolate
There’s not at thing wrong with tradition. It can be corny, but strangely sweet and romantic at the same time…particularly at the beginning of a relationship.
My thought however is that if you’re going traditional, you’ve got to kick things up a notch which means Perrier Jouët Rosé Champagne or Piper-Heidsieck Rosé Sauvage Champagne instead of Korbel. Fine crystal Champagne flutes instead of the plastic or cheap glass variety. And fine Chocolate from an acclaimed chocolatier, not Hershey or Cadbury. I mean, c’mon you’ve got to make it look like you put a little effort into it.
A Shopping Spree
Forget trying to win him over through his stomach and reach for your wallet instead. It’s the last minute which necessarily means you might have to pull out the big guns.
There are few things more enjoyable in life than a guilt-free shopping spree, which is one of the easiest gifts you can give your better half on V-Day this year. Tuck a pre-paid card from your lover’s favorite retailer inside a magnificent floral bouquet and spoil them rotten this Valentine’s Day.
See? There’s no reason to panic. 24 hours is plenty of time to get your romantic house in order for Valentine’s Day.
Happy shopping!
