Gay Men in Jamaica Attacked by Mob
In the latest in a wave of attacks on gay men in notoriously homophobic Jamaica, three gay men in the Jamaican town of Mandeville were violently attacked by an angry mob of approximately 20 people who broke into their home last week after having threatened them with violence just days before if they did not leave the community. After the incident, two of the attacked men were hospitalized, one with serious injuries including a severed ear, while another man is still missing and feared dead.Feb 6, 2008

Gay Rights Groups React to Congress' Decision to Drop Hate Crimes Bill
Congressional aides are reporting that a House-Senate conference committee has dropped the hate-crimes legislation co-sponsored by Sen. Gordon Smith, R-Ore., and Sen. Edward Kennedy, D-Mass., from a defense authorization bill because it did not have sufficient support in the House.

This week, a self proclaimed gay gamer was verbally attacked for his sexuality while a participant in the Xbox on line game Halo3.

Senators, Congressman Demand Investigation Into Death of Lesbian Service Member
Senators Edward Kennedy and John Kerry and Congressman William Delahunt called on Pentagon officials yesterday to investigate the death of Specialist Ciara Durkin, a lesbian service member who was found dead from a gunshot wound to the head on Sept. 27. Durkin was serving in Afghanistan at the time.

Vermont Teens Face Up to Five Years in Prison for Hate Crime Against Relative
Two Vermont teens are being charged with a hate crime and face up to five years in prison for allegedly spray painting antigay slogans on and slashing the tires of a pair of vehicles belonging to two men joined in a civil union.

ENDA Vote Postponed Over Reaction from Gay Rights Groups
The Employment Non-Discrimination Act (ENDA) won’t be coming up for a vote yet in the U.S. House of Representatives, after all, thanks to the ruckus created yesterday by gay rights groups across the country. Late last week, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, and Rep. Barney Frank split the original bill into two parts, one offering protections for gays, lesbians and bisexuals and the other supporting trangendered people.
