Project Runway boy genius and season four winner Christian Siriano will launch a maternity wear line in 2009. Siriano and his pals, founders of Moody Mamas maternity clothes, Marta Abrams and Elise Rosemarin, have joined forces to for a collection called Fierce for Moody Mamas by Christian Siriano.
The runaway star of Runway season four, Siriano signed on to the unlikely maternity project because he thought it would be great for a gay man to team up with two women who’ve never given birth, to design a maternity collection, a Moody Mamas rep told New York Magazine's fashion section.
Since winning Runway, Siriano designed virtual prom wear for Gaia Online’s virtual prom, signed on to design a 15-piece collection for Puma and as part of his Runway prize, his first collection for Bluefly became available on July 23. The wildly popular collection has already sold out in most sizes.
Early sketches for the maternity collection include a pleated baby doll dress and purple wrap-around dress.
While Siriano, who popularized the phrase, “hot tranny mess,” is in the preliminary stages of his Moody Mamas collection, his regular runway line is set to premiere at New York’s fashion week on Sept. 11.
