Hey Barry –

I have friends who continue to come to me for a drug hook up. Of course, I know how to get them, but that’s just not my life anymore. I like these guys and I care about them, and I feel bad trying to sit in judgment of what they do with their lives, but I want them to stop coming to me. What can I do?

Drug Busted -

Good for you for knowing right from wrong—now all you have to do is stand by that.

Your answer is “sorry, I can’t help you out when it comes to getting drugs anymore.” That’s that. Boundaries make our life simpler, not more complicated. Then just be a good friend and a good example of sobriety.

In my humble opinion, you need to stop hanging around with them. Period. Without judgments, it’s OK to fill your life with people who aren’t using. Let them have their journey and you have yours. I’d keep any contact—if you continue your friendship—to public places, not at the old using and drinking places. Suggest breakfast or lunch somewhere—a movie perhaps. You get the idea. Just don’t hang around while they’re indulging.

Hi Barry –

I am desperate to put on muscle fast but no matter what I try, it doesn’t happen. I weigh 150lbs at 6’ tall and I’m up to almost 3,000 calories per day with 45 minutes of lifting and nothing. Would I benefit from supplements?

- Skin and Bones

Dear Skin and Bones -

Well you just gave me your answer. How much do you expect to weigh at 3000 calories and your height? Add about 2000 calories a day and watch what happens. Add 15 minutes to the lifting as well and make sure you are doing your heaviest weights possible. If you can lift more than 6 reps of any set, it’s too light.

In my humble opinion, you simply lacking the proper information and don’t need the supplements. They can’t ‘hurt’, but they won’t put the size on if you’re not eating enough to gain.

There ya go! Let me know how you are doing with this in a few months. I am sure you’ll see the difference.
