In My Humble Opinion

Dear Barry -

I’m just going to come right out and say it. I want a 6-pac or an 8-pac or whatever size pac I’m supposed to have. My diet is good, I do ab exercises like mad but I can never seem to graduate past 4. What’s going to take me over the edge?

- Pac Less

Dear Pac Less -

What’s going to take you over the edge is your obsession with this goal... 4, 6, 8: Its all good. You didn’t mention how long you’ve been going at it either.

The abs can be the last thing to change, so patience and persistence are key elements to your success. If you already have the four pack you are most likely well on your way.

There might be some starches you can remove from your diet, or if there is any sugar in your diet, you can remove that. Read carefully: Sugar is the devil and sneaks into foods where we don’t think. All the ab exercises in the world are good but they don’t free your abs from the layer of fat around it... the change must be in your food program.

Are you eating late? Are you eating a big enough breakfast? Are you tapering off carbs in the latter part of the day? Since this is body and exercise oriented, in my humble opinion, you just need to do some extra focus and be patient. After all, if that’s truly what you want, you can have it.

The best abs I’ve seen come from people who watch calories, are burning more than they’re eating but yet eating enough and are consistent. Some of what you have might be stress weight from worrying too much about this or a real problem in your life.

Relax. Be grateful. Turn your abs over and just eat right and exercise and enjoy the process.
