New HRC Foundation Guide Helps Employers Create Fair Policies for Transgender Workers
The Human Rights Campaign Foundation, the nation’s largest gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender civil rights organization, has released a guide that aims to provide human resource and other employment professionals with best practices for transgender workplace inclusion as well as the state of legal issues encompassing gender identity in employment situations.

Oregon Business Leaders Honored for Commitment to Gay Rights
Oregon Governor Ted Kulongoski and House Speaker Jeff Merkley presented awards at the Basic Rights Education Fund’s 15th Annual Oregonians Against Discrimination Business Leaders Luncheon held on Thursday. The awards recognized those who played a critical role in the 2007 passage of two key laws that gave basic rights to gay men and women.

Canada Bans Gay Men from Donating Vital Organs
Health Canada formalized legislation this month that would prevent men who have had sex with other men in the last five years from donating vital organs. The new regulations, which are similar to the guidelines about blood donations in Canada, are aimed at risky behavior, not individuals, yet the ban focuses solely on the sexual activity of men with other men rather than sexual promiscuity.

Don’t Cry for Gay Argentina
Five years ago, Buenos Aires became the first major Latin American city to approve legalized same-sex unions. Last month, the city welcomed Latin America’s first luxury hotel designed specifically for a gay male audience. And this week, Argentina's House of Representatives is expected to vote on a new national law to extend health benefits to gay couples. All of this means there is a little need these days to cry for gay Argentina.

Unfortunately, Charlene Strong’s story is well known to those who live in and around Seattle: Last December, Strong’s partner of 10 years, Kate Fleming, became trapped in the basement of their Madison Valley home when a wall collapsed during a renegade rainstorm. At the hospital, three words ('just Kate's partner') made Charlene an overnight activist for the rights of gays and lesbians everywhere.
