In honor of the 40th anniversary of New York’Äôs Stonewall Riots, OutQ News examines the strides and setbacks of the last 40 years of gay rights movement

NEW YORK ’Äì June 24, 2009 ’Äì SIRIUS XM Radio (NASDAQ: SIRI) announced that in honor of the 40th anniversary of Stonewall, largely recognized as the beginning of the modern gay rights movement, it will broadcast Stonewall 40 Minutes ’Äì a series of one-minute vignettes spotlighting significant events in the Gay Rights Movements over the past 40 years on OutQ, the nation’Äôs first and only radio channel for the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community.
Stonewall 40 Minutes will air beginning June 28 and continue through mid July exclusively on OutQ, SIRIUS channel 109 and XM channel 98. The special series is produced and hosted by OutQ News, the channel’Äôs dedicated news team. OutQ News delivers hourly updates and insightful daily coverage of all the news affecting the LGBT community.
Stonewall 40 Minutes will document both the strides and setbacks that occurred in the LGBT community from 1969-2009. Each piece is a testament to progress achieved over the past 40 years, while simultaneously offering a reminder of the steps needed to fully realize true equality. Featured historical moments include the first gay pride marches in New York and LA in 1970; the 1978 assassination of Harvey Milk, the first openly-gay elected official in a major city; Bowers v. Hardwick ’Äì the 1986 Supreme Court decision that ruled that it was legal for states to ban gay sex; and the 2005 release of the movie Brokeback Mountain.
Stonewall 40 Minutes will be posted daily and OutQ’Äôs hourly newscasts can be heard on-demand at www.sirius.com/outq.
