Perpetual beach bum Matthew McConaughey and Brazilian model girlfriend Camila Alves welcomed a new baby boy into the family on Monday evening. McConaughey and his partner are “stoked and wowed” by the birth of their first child, according to a post on the actor’s web site. It was the second celebrity birth for the day. Actress Nicole Kidman and country singer Keith Urban also welcomed a new baby on Monday, daughter Sunday Rose.
McConaughey, winner of People magazine’s “Sexiest Man Alive” in 2005, has been with Alves for two years. The couple announced in January that they were expecting a child together. In a post on his official web site at the time, McConaughey said that the couple was “stoked and wowed by this miracle of creation and this gift from God, and so excited for the adventure that will come in raising this child, being mother and a father, and shepherding him or her through this life.”
“Wish us the best, keep us in your prayers, and God bless evolution,” McConaughey continued in the post. “Thanks for being fans of me and my work and now this new and miraculous chapter in my life, as me and Camila and our child do our best to just keep living.”
Alves gave birth to a healthy baby boy at 6:22 p.m. on Monday evening, according to the actor’s web site. The baby boy, who weighed in at 7 pounds, 4 ounces, has so far not been named publicly.
“Camila and I were side by side the entire time,” McConaughey told OK Magazine about the birthing experience. “We are both tired and elated, and are so happy to have created the greatest miracle in the world—having a child and making a family.”
The Texas-born actor previously dated a slew of high profile actresses, including Sandra Bullock, Kate Hudson, Ashley Judd and Penelope Cruz. In 2006, McConaughey found himself the target of rumors about his sexuality after becoming extremely close friends with Tour de France winning cyclist Lance Armstrong.
The friendship between the two unlikely pals bloomed after both men found themselves suddenly single. McConaughey had just broken up with Cruz and Armstrong had called it quits with singer Sheryl Crow. The two were spotted repeatedly hanging out together, often shirtless, biking, working out and partying. McConaughey joked about the rumors the two were 'more than friends', telling Details magazine that "We tried it. Wasn't for us."
McConaughey has had several brushes with the law, the most famous of which was the infamous “bongo naked” incident in October, 1999. The actor was arrested in Austin, Texas on charges of possession of marijuana and resisting arrest after being found dancing naked and playing bongo drums with a friend. The drug charges in the arrest were later dropped after the actor pleaded guilty to violating the city’s noise ordinance.
McConaughey has starred in such popular films as We Are Marshall, Sahara and EDtv. He will next be starring the in the Ben Stiller movie Tropic Thunder.
