Actor Christian Bale, star of the latest Batman film The Dark Knight, has been released from jail after being arrested on assault charges. The 34-year-old actor surrendered himself voluntarily to police in London after his mother and sister told police he had assaulted them. Bale has denied the allegations.
Bale's attorney released a statement to the press saying the actor had gone to a London police station on a "voluntary basis" to deal with the allegations made against him by his family members, according to People.com.
"Mr. Bale, who denies the allegation, co-operated throughout, gave his account in full of the events in question, and has left the station without any charge being made against him by the police," the statement continued. "There will be no further comment by Mr. Bale."
The incident reportedly went down at London’s Dorchester Hotel, where Bale was staying while promoting the latest installment in the Batman franchise in London. No details of what actually happened beteen the star and his mother Jenny, 61, and sister Sharon, 40, have yet been released.
According to reports, neither woman would speak to the press about the events that led to the assault allegations. Both women filed reports against Bale at a local police station.
Bale, 34, was questioned for several hours before being released on bail. He will be required to return to the police station in September for follow-up on the charges against him, pending further inquiries into the incident by police.
