In an interview earlier today on Good Morning America, Samantha Who star, Christina Applegate, revealed she is “definitely not going to die from breast cancer.” The actress’ announcement comes after the revelation earlier this month that she was being treated for the disease after it was detected through a doctor-ordered MRI.
Since that time Applegate has adopted a macrobiotic diet of fish, grains, beans and vegetables, and undergone treatment for breast cancer which required both her breasts to be removed. Doctors have now issued Applegate a clean bill of health and a fresh start.
“I'm clear," Applegate told Good Morning America’s Robin Roberts this morning. “Absolutely 100 percent clear and clean. It did not spread. They got everything out, so I'm definitely not going to die from breast cancer."
Though optimistic now, Applegate initially found her diagnosis devastating.
"I was just shaking and then also immediately, I had to go into 'take-care-of-business' mode,” Applegate said.
"After looking at all the treatment plans that were possibilities for me, the only one that seemed the most logical and the one that was going to work for me was to have a bilateral mastectomy."
Applegate underwent the surgery three weeks ago and will have reconstructive surgery over the coming months.
"I'm going to have the best boobs in the nursing home," she joked to Roberts.
The actress, whose mother battled breast cancer, says she began getting mammograms at the age of 30.
Applegate is scheduled to appear on a one-hour TV special, Stand Up to Cancer, to be aired on ABC, CBS and NBC on Sept. 5 to raise funds for cancer research.
Applegate first rose to fame in the role of Kelly Bundy on the long running Fox Comedy series Married With Children. She is divorced from actor, Jonathan Schaech.
