Human Rights Campaign Highlights Best Places to Work for 2008
The Human Rights Campaign Foundation, the nation’s largest gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender civil rights organization, has released its annual list of the 'Best Places to Work for GLBT Equality'. A total of 195 companies that achieve this honor will use the 2008 'Best Places to Work for GLBT Equality' seal to distinguish their company as a fair-minded employer

Gaywheels.com Adds BMW to Gay-Friendly List
Gaywheels.com, the only website designed for the GLBT automotive consumer, has updated its listing of gay-friendly car companies to include another brand previously on its non-gay-friendly list—BMW. BMW of North America, who began offering domestic partner benefits to their U.S. employees in their Sales, Marketing and Finance divisions in 2007, extended those same benefits to their employees in the manufacturing division in January.

Washington, D.C. to Host LGBT Economic Development Summit in November
Washington, D.C. will host the first Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Economic Development Summit later this year, according to Neil O. Albert, the city's deputy mayor for planning and economic development. The goal of the summit, which will take place on Nov. 3, will be to ensure that LGBT business leaders and entrepreneurs continue to play an important role in leading the economic and creative development of the city.

Inaugural Healthcare Equality Index Turns a Critical Eye Toward the Gay-Friendliness of American Hospitals
The Human Rights Campaign and the Gay and Lesbian Medical Association have released the Healthcare Equality Index, an annual survey addressing five areas of greatest concern to LGBT patients: patient non-discrimination, visitation, medical decision-making, cultural competency training for staff and employment policies.

What is our obsession with work? I hear people who brag about working 50, 60, 70, even 80 hours a week. They brag not because they’re proud, they brag because they’re trying to one-up someone else who is talking about a difficult job. We martyr ourselves to our jobs in the hopes that someone will recognize us for our unflagging devotion to our work, yet that recognition never comes.
