After an initial announcement that no Parade or Community Day would take place in Montreal in 2007, Montreal’s LGBTA community has rallied together to save the event.

Founded in May 2007 in response to the threatened cancellation of Montreal’s annually well-attended gay-pride festivities, Célébrations LGBTA Montréal, a community-driven, not-for-profit organization whose mission is to produce Montreal’s LGBTA Community Day and Parade, was formed.

“The Parade and the Community Day celebrate how diverse and inclusive our community truly is, and how much life exists outside of the closet. ” explains Éric Pineault, President of Célébrations LGBTA Montréal when asked about the importance of keeping the tradition of the Montreal’s Community Day celebration and parade alive. “The events will celebrate all of the great recent advancements that our community has fought to achieve, including gay marriage. But more importantly, our organization's mission is to continue to highlight how much more work is necessary to truly eradicate homophobia, both at home and abroad.”

Set to take place on July 28th & 29th 2007 in the heart of Montreal’s Gay Village Célébrations LGBTA Montréal has already announced many new additions to the Montreal Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender & All Friends Community Day & Parade which include hundreds of local sports teams, cultural and religious groups.

Furthermore, Célébrations LGBTA Montréal is launching the Célébrations LGBTA Awards for the most exciting, crowd-pleasing and unforgettable floats. The awards will include: Most Crowd-Pleasing Float, Best Expression of the 2007 Theme, Best Choreography by a group, Best Costume and Make-up by an individual or group, Community Group Float of the year and Corporate Float of the year, as well as special “Jury Prizes” .

At 2pm, as in the past, a moment of silence will envelop the whole parade, as it stops to remember members of Montreal’s gay and lesbian community who have been lost to AIDS.
