Orbitz Celebrates Gay Pride

In June 2002, Orbitz.com became the first major online travel agency to create a dedicated gay travel microsite. Now in an effort to extend the celebration of gay pride beyond the month of June, Orbitz is launching an online charity auction, aimed at raising funds for top charities including Human Rights Campaign (HRC), GLAAD and The Matthew Shepard Foundation. In addition to the auction, Orbitz will launch a hotel and package sale to help travelers find great deals to pride events worldwide.  

Orbitz is encouraging everyone to visit www.orbitzcharity.com/lgbt. Through August 12th, 2007, Orbitz is hosting this online charity auction where people can bid on great items such as travel packages, True Colors Tour tickets with backstage access, and autographed CDs.  

In this effort, Orbitz has partnered with several other committed companies, such as Hyatt Hotels and Resorts, Paris Las Vegas, Luxor, Treasure Island, New York - New York Hotel & Casino, and the True Colors Tour who have donated auction items.  

Proceeds from the auctions will be donated directly to various worthy charities, including HRC, GLAAD, and The Matthew Sheppard Foundation. In addition to it’s charity auction, Orbitz is also celebrating the GLBT community throughout the summer’s pride season with a special Pride sale.
