There has been a few coaching changes in the NFL this season, and just a month after Falcons leader Bobby Petrino steps away from his position, the Baltimore Ravens want to join in the shuffle. After nine seasons head coach Brian Billick got the ax this week just in time for the New Year.

It was a quick and yet not entirely unexpected firing as his job performance rating has severally declined over the past few years, but after last season’s 13-3, Billick’s contract was extended and there seemed to be some sense of job security.

However, after another lackluster offensive season, Sports Illustrated reported that owner Steve Bisciotti was meeting with potential replacements for Billick including ex-Steelers head coach Bill Cowher and University of Iowa head coach Kirk Ferentz.

The official news came after the Ravens finished the season 5-11, and Bisciotti told the Sun, "I just changed my mind. I can't explain to you how tough a decision it is. It's the toughest decision I've ever had to make."

The Ravens won a Super bowl title in 2000 and captured the AFC north championship in 2003 under Billick’s direction, but the past few seasons were extremely underwhelming.

Billick seemed to take the news in stride telling the Baltimore Sun, "It's been a great ride with the Ravens and the fans here."
