Goat dressing, steer decorating, and wild drag racing, are spectacles that you don't see everyday, but if you get the chance to be in Austin this September the Texas Gay Rodeo Association's (TGRA) promises that you will be entertained by them. The 24th incarnation of the Texas event is set to take place for two days September 22 and 23 and proceeds will go to benefit local charities.
The Texas Rodeo Association is a subsidiary of the International Rodeo Association and in conjunction with 18 other events across North America offers some of the most comprehensive rodeo experiences for the LGBT community.
Men and women will compete in over 13 events including bull riding, barrel racing, and team roping and prizes will be awarded to the top finishers in each event. Winners will go on to compete in the IGRA finals held in Denver, Colorado in mid October.
"This Rodeo offers much more than a simple spectator's event," said
Mark Miller, Rodeo Director. "It is a cultural festival where everyone can enjoy entertainment and music, dancing, dining and shopping, as well as educational and artistic venues."
Proceeds from the event benefit local charitable organizations, such as the Breast Cancer Resource Center of Austin, AIDS Services of Austin and Project Transitions Inc. The IGRA has a tremendous fund raising record and has raised over 2 million dollars for such worthy organizations.
So grab a cowboy, and head on down to Austin to participate in this fun filled, exciting weekend.
